The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5th 1770. The Boston Massacre was partly a misunderstanding between the colonists and the soldiers. One soldier was standing guard and since the colonists and the soldiers did not get along the colonists started being mean and calling the soldier names. Then Captain Thomas Preston and a few other soldiers came to the one soldiers' side. Then more colonists came and started up a crowd. Then both the soldiers and the colonists started fighting and being cruel to each other causing a big commotion. The captain and the soldiers were getting really angry, so they got their muskets, which is something similar to a riffle or gun. They loaded them up, but Captain Thomas Preston was not sure about them shooting, and so he said "do not fire". But one soldier thought that he said to fire so he shot toward the crowd and then all the other soldiers fired toward the crowd in panic, not knowing what to do. Five men died that day from the gun shots, while other lay wounded. The date was March 5th 1770, and it was called the Boston Massacre. Some people think it was all a misunderstanding and others think it was either all the colonists fault for being mean to the soldiers or the soldiers fault for firing into the crowd.
